2014年10月、汎米保健機関（Pan American Health Organization）は、「エボラウイルス病への事前準備と対応を強化するためのフレームワーク（Framework for Strengthening National Preparedness and Response for Ebola Virus Disease in the Americas）」を打ち出した。フレームワークは、エボラウイルス病に焦点を当てているものの、幅広い新興および再興感染症に対応するための各国の能力を評価し、ギャップを埋めることを目的としている。

American Journal of Public Healthは、ラテンアメリカおよびカリビアンの地域にある33の国の能力の評価についての記事を掲載している。記事は、それぞれの国で事前準備が進められているものの、今後さらなる取組みが必要と結論づけている。
